The NCAA released their first RPI rankings of the 2017 season. While the RPI is always a little controversial, its still a very important measurement with regards to which teams get into the Big BBQ on Selection Sunday. Here’s a link to the full RPI rankings.

Comments.
#1 Notre Dame. Fresh off of their number 1 ranking in the IL Media Poll this week, the Notre Dame faithful get another bit of good news today as they sit atop the first NCAA RPI Rankings for 2017. While polls and #LaxTwitter street cred are important, nothing really compares to having a very good RPI, as its an actual criteria used by the selection committee on Selection Sunday. Today is a very good day if you are a Fighting Irish fan.
Big Ten. The GAWD Conference did very well in the first RPI release of 2017. The Big Ten has 5 teams in the top 10 RPI and all 6 teams in the top 15. In comparison the ACC has 2 of the top 3 RPI, 3 teams in the top 11 RPI, Duke doesn’t appear until 23, and UVA is all the way down at 33.
Mighty Hofstra. The Pride are certainly back this season. Hofstra is having one of its best seasons in years and they certainly merit the RPI recognition. If Hofstra can win out its regular season, their high RPI may be enough to ensure an at-large bid no matter what happens in the CAA tournament. Stand up, Long Island!
Providence. While the Friars aren’t in the top 20, coming in at 22 is not too shabby. Providence still has a shot to get top 20 RPI wins, as they have yet to play Villanova (#13 RPI), Marquette (#19 RPI), and Denver (#2 RPI). Additionally, they gave Chris a shout out for his #WhitneyInOt video from their game this week, so I obviously had to show them some love.
