Redshirt junior Lucas Gradinger, who was competing for a spot on Maryland’s starting midfield, will not play this spring. Gradinger has stepped away from the program, coach John Tillman said Wednesday morning. Tillman said he is hopeful that Gradinger will return to the Terps, who are ranked No. 2 in the preseason Maverik media poll, in the fall and have two years of eligibility remaining.

Here are five takeaways from Penn State men’s lacrosse preseason.
ATTACKMANIA - The attacking corp was already destined to be deadly with senior Nick Aponte and sophomore Grant Ament at the helm. But replacing TJ Sanders, who had the second most goals for the Lions last season, was expected to be a difficult task. Clearly, no one told Mac O’Keefe that. The freshman is probably still flickering through the nightmares of Midshipmen goalies. He scored five goals in the preseason opener, all while not playing the entire contest. Expect a lot of production from the trigger-happy trio.
About 25 members of Ocean City’s boys lacrosse team recently spent a Saturday morning packing and loading furniture, clothing, medical supplies and other donations bound for Liberia.
The team lent a helping hand to Hope for Liberia, a nonprofit founded and headed by Eli Gbayee, who spoke to students when he visited Ocean City High School earlier this year, according to a press release.
