All the lacrosse news you can handle and plenty more!

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING, College Crosse Nation!! Thanks for making us a part of your day! And happy Veterans Day, and more importantly, thank you to those that have served.

Here are your links for November 11, 2017.

But before we start, a reminder to send in your questions for our Ask Us Anything podcast next week!

VMI’s schedule is nearly the same, but can the Keydets win more games in 2018?

UNC women’s head coach Jenny Levy was named the new head coach of the U.S. Women’s National team.

Lacrosse The Nation

So the sport of lacrosse was mentioned by Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell:

And just like that, we done. I ain’t gonna lie to y’all, I’m tired as hell. They’ve been running me into the ground in practice. Brah, I take every damn rep, well not every rep. JC [James Connor] be getting me a little couple breathers here and there, but god damn bro.

Bro, Thursday’s the worst day of practice. *Laughs* I be thinking like why I sign up for this football man? Why I sign up for this football? Like I should’ve chose like...lacrosse *laughs again* or tennis. This stuff too, this too much on my body bro.

This was over a caption of “lol I’m retiring after this year.”

The majority of the lacrosse community overreacted to his joke and may not have realized he’s on pace to have the 12th most carries in a season in NFL history. Or even saw the video and instead do what most people do today and just read the headline and react, or a copy of part of his quote.

Why? Because the word “lacrosse” was mentioned by a big name athlete. We, a niche sport, are finally in the spotlight! (Not really)

It also didn’t help that the Post-Gazette helped twist his words Here’s numerous overreactions and word twistings:

He liked and retweeted his own tweet.

He liked his own tweet.

Now if he does decide to do what he joked about (he won’t), he’ll be giving up a salary of at least $12.12 million! He’s a free agent this upcoming offseason, and he’s getting paid. Like more than the average MLL salary between $10,000 and $20,000.

So please, calm down.

Moving on, it’s the weekend, so that means football, and it also means many teams are out on the recruiting trail:

Having the community involved is a big part of the Marquette Golden Eagles program:

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”

Matt Hamilton of US Lacrosse Magazine writes how Monmouth Hawks defenseman Dillon Smart’s lifting helped save a life on the New Jersey shore:

Smart’s two interests converged in 2013, when he and his brother, Nick, were on a family vacation in Atlantic City, N.J. The brothers saw a woman frantically gesturing toward the water, where her husband and child were clinging to a pipe, unable to get to shore.

Smart, on his surfboard, paddled out to the father and son, who were exhausted and bloodied. Nick Smart took the child on his board and left Dillon Smart with the heavier father. It took some hard work, but Dillon Smart was able to bring the father to shore. He may have saved the man’s life.

“If I hadn’t lifted, that guy probably wouldn’t have gotten in,” he said. “My brother was expecting me to get the bigger guy. I’m really struggling like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I got him in, but it took a lot out of me, for sure.”

NLIs are still coming in!
