Maryland and Johns Hopkins have @bigten.org email addresses these days. This means, of course, that the Terps and Blue Jays must play for a rivalry trophy. The Big Ten has basically determined that a rivalry cannot exist without tangible evidence of the rivalry and that possessions stolen or gained must be obtained -- other than diabetes from attending a state fair in the Big Ten's footprint -- for beating a rival's face into the earth.
The Terrapins and Blue Jays have responded to their new set of circumstances with this -- "The Rivalry Trophy":
This is peak Baltimore Man.
From the press release that Johns Hopkins issued:
The Johns Hopkins University and University of Maryland men's lacrosse teams, in coordination with the Big Ten Conference, have collaborated to announce the unveiling of "The Rivalry Trophy."
Serving as a nod to one of the state of Maryland's most iconic images, the Maryland blue crab, the trophy was made using reclaimed wood from Baltimore, Md., and crafted by Sandtown Millworks. It weighs 25 pounds and measures 32 inches wide and 22 inches tall.
25 pounds?! How much Old Bay is inside that thing?!
