There has not been much public news yet on the search for a men's lacrosse coach at Rutgers. Postseason college lacrosse has yet to wind down, and Rutgers athletic director was busy last week attending Big East conference meetings in Florida.
All there's been is a vacuum of fan speculation, with a lot of wishful thinking centering on former Duke coach Mike Pressler. Is there any chance that the current Duke coach, Rutgers alumnus John Danowski, could become involved? The possibility seems unlikely, but Lacrosse Magazine reports that Danowski did not outright rule out the possibility after being asked about it following Duke's loss to Maryland in the lacrosse Final Four. The concept brings to mind other ACC coaches in George Gelnovatch (UVA soccer) and Seth Greenberg (VT basketball) leveraging Rutgers interest in ploys to negotiate lucrative contract extensions, but you never know. Maybe there's a chance, or maybe Danowski was giving an abstract, hypothetical answer.
Regardless, if Rutgers is willing to make a financial investment in lacrosse a (very big if), it will undoubtedly be an attractive job to any coach.
