Things Have Happened: Late Evening Lacrosse Updates

Jim O'Connor-US PRESSWIRE

We're approaching the final surge, you guys. Hang on for just a little bit longer.

Let's get right to this.

  • Marist 12, Manhattan 14: I can't explain this either. I honestly thought it was a bunch of Communist lies when someone tweet the score at me as I was sitting in the Princeton-Cornell press conferences. Crazypants lacrosse scores from non-power conferences just aren't for Tuesdays, you guys.
  • Bellarmine 5, Pennsylvania 10: A tough pill to swallow for the Knights after putting together an otherwise fantastic season. Bellarmine will close its 2013 season with a 7-7 record, a pedestrian mark unless you look at where the Knights have been and the heights they reached this season. A season-ending five-game losing streak is going to make Kevin Burns toss and turn throughout the offseason, but Bellarmine -- especially its seniors -- have nothing to be ashamed off this year with what they were able to accomplish when very few expected Bellarmine to even touch the outer reaches of the top 20. Pennsylvania, meanwhile, will prepare for a date with Yale as the Ivy League's three-seed after the Elis dropped the Crimson in Cambridge this afternoon. The Bulldogs and the Quakers may be playing for each other's position in the NCAA Tournament -- will the Ivy League get more than two teams in? -- and it makes the Friday showdown between the two schools especially compelling.
  • Syracuse 1, Notre Dame 3 (Half): Let's just leave it at this for now and move right along (because the first half was tragically boring):
    Syracuse Offensive Efficiency: 7.14
    Notre Dame Offensive Efficiency: 21.43
    Possession Margin: Even (14 Each)

Elsewhere around the country:

  • Albany 11, Stony Brook 4 (Half): The Great Danes are having no problem with the most chemically imbalanced team in Division I lacrosse. The Seawolves appear headed for a rematch with Albany -- on Stony Brook's home field -- next week in the semifinals of the America East Tournament.
  • Georgetown 9, Rutgers 2 (Half): The Hoyas appear to have the Big East's fourth postseason position locked up barring an epic collapse in New Jersey. Who would've thought that a freak Georgetown upset of St. John's in Bethpage, New York (in overtime) would ultimately become the Hoyas most important victory of the season and the Johnnies' eventual moment of infinite regret.
  • Penn State 5, Hofstra 1 (Half): The Pride need to beat the Nittany Lions if they hope to extend their season and stay on the fringes of the NCAA Tournament conversation. Right now, Hofstra is playing like the team that has lost its verve and not the team that smacked the Irish at Arlotta earlier in the season.
  • St. Joseph's 2, Towson 7 (Half): The Hawks aren't going to the THUNDERDOME! Tournament. Their traditional decapitation will happen tonight outside of Baltimore.
