Marquette To Hire Hofstra Assistant Joe Amplo As First Lacrosse Coach

Stay connected for news and updates

Back in December we learned that Marquette would be kickstarting lacrosse programs for the 2013 season. Now Inside Lacrosse is reporting that Hofstra assistant Joe Amplo will be hired as the first men's coach, according to multiple sources.

The formal announcement from Marquette and Hofstra will be coming in the next few days, the source says.

Amplo was a four-year letterman at Hofstra from 1996 through 1999. He was an assistant coach from 1999 to 2001 before returning to Long Island in the fall of 2002 after one year as an assistant coach at Pennsylvania.

He was named associate head coach in August 2008.

Amplo's got his work cut out for him. Marquette will be thrown to the wolves (see: Syracuse, Notre Dame, Georgetown) in two years.
